One of Chesterfield County's seven strategic goals is to be the employer of choice.
An objective of this strategic goal is to ensure that our rewards and recognition system
reinforces the county's mission. Within the Department of Utilities Finance and
Administration Division rewards and recognition play a critical role in our efforts to
achieve this strategy. Over the past several years, we have developed and refined our
employee rewards and recognition program to become more aligned with the county's
continuous improvement philosophy and to emphasize our strong commitment to
providing our customers with excellent service.
Our overall performance management system utilizes rewards and recognition for the
achievement of goals, objectives, and strategies. Employees who meet defined
performance measures may receive either monetary or non-monetary bonuses. Staff
members may be recognized by their supervisor for achieving either individual or group
goals based on monthly, quarterly, or yearly accomplishments. Peer recognition may
occur as employees can recognize and recommend each other for exceptional
accomplishments, assisting others, taking on special projects, and/or demonstrating
actions that improve customer service or productivity.
The keys to our rewards and recognition program are employee participation, a strong
management commitment, training, identifying measurements for our major processes,
linking rewards and recognition to the successful achievement of these targets, yearly
increases in dollar expenditures for cash and non-cash awards, and improving
our communications efforts by offering employees a voice in determining appropriate
rewards and recognition and publicly recognizing and thanking employees for their
achievements. Includes figures.
