In 2001, the Contra Costa Water District (District) created a new programmatic
process to improve the District's steel water tanks after inspections identified
significant corrosion and structural degradation in a number of tanks. The
approach for implementation of this program has been to assess the long-term,
overall condition and operational effectiveness of the tanks on a case-by-case
basis but under an overall global view of the twelve steel tanks as a whole, with
improvements prioritized based on the lowest life cycle cost-to-benefit required to
bring these facilities to current industry standards. Includes tables, figures, appendix.
