This slide presentation begins by outlining challenges and needed responses behind the deployment of information
technologies within water utilities. The challenges include: IT staff recruitment and retention; Technology shifts; Technology vendor changes;
Organizational changes;
Personnel changes;
Business priority changes, funding changes; and,
Ensuring realization of business value. The key roles required for
successful IT mobilization, critical success factors of IT leadership, required skill sets of a
modern utility CIO, the challenges of establishing
and sustaining IT leadership, critical success factors for
IT leadership, and organizational capabilities
needed to support effective IT leadership are outlined. A brief overview of the County of Henrico, Virginia, Department
of Public Utilities (DPU) Program Management Organization is provided along with program projects completed or that are
currently underway.
