This paper presents information that should be considered when evaluating chlorine system
alternatives. Chlorine system alternatives include: chlorine gas, bulk sodium hypochlorite, and
on-site generated sodium hypochlorite, as well as on-site generation of chlorine gas. The criteria
that should be considered in the evaluation of the alternatives include reliability, water quality,
safety, O&M requirements and costs. The purpose of this study is not to recommend one
alternative over another, but to present the analysis process.
