The objectives of this study were to assess the kinetics of sequential adenovirus inactivation with ultraviolet (UV) followed by chlorine (both combined and free), and to investigate the level of synergy associated with sequential application as a function of pH and temperature. An additional goal is to characterize the molecular mechanisms of a combination of disinfectants that are responsible for synergy being observed at each condition. Specifically, the study utilized Southern Blot DNA analysis to detect and measure viral DNA replication in host cells after being treated by single and sequential disinfection. Includes 13 references, figures.
