This document specifies requirements for passive or so-called ‘cold bubble-through’ or ‘cold pass-over’ humidifying equipment, hereafter referred to as a passive HUMIDIFIER. Passive HUMIDIFIERS add water in the form of droplets or vapour, or both, to the inspired gas, without the use of heat. That is, passive HUMIDIFIERS do not utilise electricity to increase the temperature of either the water chamber or the circuit tubing. Passive HUMIDIFIER water chambers are at room temperature so have a lower mg/l output than active HUMIDIFIERS. Figure 1 and Figure 2 illustrate these HUMIDIFIERS. This document is also applicable to those ACCESSORIES intended by their MANUFACTURER to be connected to a passive HUMIDIFIER.
