This standard is intended to outline performance guidelines of acoustic foams used as repair/service materials in the aftermarket. The material may be used as an acoustic baffle in enclosed areas, such as A, B, and C pillars. It must be capable of bonding to e-coated metal and be non-wicking. It must be capable of being dispensed and cured at ambient temperatures.
Typical Applications. Aftermarket repair of automotive bodies.
Remarks. The test procedures and performance requirements contained in this standard are to serve as a template for the acoustic foam manufacturers, to aid and assist in the accumulation of test data to provide insight as to the acceptability of their use in the above mentioned applications. This standard is a guide, and is not to be construed as a recommendation for this type of repair by GM, its agents, or dealers.
The acceptability of performance of any foam systems, evaluated by means of this standard, shall be the responsibility of the Service Technology Engineer, in conjunction with the Design Release Engineer, for the application intended.
