a) This Defence Standard outlines the requirements for Life Saving Appliances used for Evacuation from military and non-military surface vessels over 24 metres in length. The standard shall be used by all involved in their design, supply, in-service support and disposal. For the purposes of this document from hereon in Life Saving Appliance shall be abbreviated to LSA.

b) For vessels less than 24 metres in length the Duty Holder shall agree the Statutory and Military requirements for LSA with the Escape & Evacuation Naval Authority.

c) This standard covers life rafts, mass evacuation systems, abandonment life jackets, man overboard recovery equipment and survival suits. It does not cover lighting, communications or signalling equipment.

1) Policy;

2) Responsibilities;

3) Equipment selection;

4) Mandatory requirements for escape and evacuation LSA fitted or carried on military and nonmilitary vessels;

5) Scaling and positioning of equipment.
