This Defence Standard (Def Stan) specifies technical requirements for two types of polymer foam products for use in thermal insulation applications on HM Ships and Submarines.

Requirements that are common to all types of polymer foam products are described in the main part of the standard.

Requirements for the materials and methods of manufacture, plus physical, thermal, fire and other properties of particular types of polymer foam products used for specific applications, according to Def Stan 02-703, are specified in annexes A and B of this Def Stan as follows:

Annex A - Rigid plastic (polyisocyanurate) foam slabs, cut and moulded sections for use as thermal insulation on systems at temperatures up to 80°C;

Annex B - Phenolic foam slabs for use as thermal insulation in cold and cool rooms.
