This Standard provides designers and users with advice relating to the selection and application of batteries for portable electrical equipment, with particular reference to batteries for Army Portable Electronic Equipment (APEE).

This Standard seeks to promulgate the Ministry of Defence policy on the standardization of batteries and in particular, the policy of the Master General of the Ordnance (MGO) regarding the standardization of batteries for APEE and establishes a procedure that complies with MGO Instruction No 132.

This Standard contains a rationalised range of batteries in tables A and B. It is intended that these batteries will form the Standard Range and will eventually be included in other Defence Standards.

This Standard also presents the factors that determine particular battery requirements, establishes a selection process to meet these requirements and sets out the typical performance characteristics (annexes A, B and C) of the Standard Range of batteries (tables A and B).
