Purpose and scope
This document will define in general terms the principal activities associated with Engineering Assurance, focussing on the specific tasks to be undertaken. The document is provided for guidance only and should be viewed as an “aide memoire” to the practising assurance engineer.
The guide has been updated to reflect recent changes in both the Network development process and contracting strategy. The key focus of this handbook remains unchanged in that assurance engineers are asked to implement a risk based strategy concentrating on key issues or on areas of design that have traditionally caused problems for scheme delivery. Throughout all project stages the assurance engineer is expected to actively engage with both internal and external stakeholders and the delivery organisations to ensure that;
. a mutually agreeable design is tabled at each project stage with a clearly defined schedule of deliverables.
. the extent and detail of documentation and drawings meets the requirements of the project stage.
. an acceptable design development and delivery programme is agreed allowing sufficient time for review, agreement and amendment as required
