PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This Technical Specification (TS) defines National Grid’s functional, performance and testing requirements for Series Compensation (SC) for connection on the National Grid (NG) transmission system at 275 kV and 400 kV. This includes Fixed Series Capacitors (FSC) and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitors (TCSC). Typical arrangements of SC bays for connection to the NG Transmission system are shown in Appendix A.

The detailed Protection and Control (P&C) requirements for the SC bay are defined separately in TS 3.24.88.

This specification is by reference to the relevant British and International standards and specifications.

Where a requirement in a National Grid Technical Specification exceeds or is more onerous than that of the British or International standard, the most onerous condition shall be considered appropriate.

To prevent duplication, where a requirement is already defined within an existing TS, reference is made to that TS and the requirement may not be re-stated within this TS.
