PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This document forms part of a suite of documents which define National Grid’s functional and performance requirements for new plant and equipment associated with electricity transmission.

This Specification covers the requirements which are applicable to vibration dampers for all types and sizes of overhead line conductors and earthwires specified in TS 3.4.2 and TS 3.8.9 and procured for use on overhead lines owned by or directly connected to the National Grid transmission system. Vibration dampers will only be registered for use on conductors for which they have been tested.

For the purpose of this specification it may be assumed that Horse (70 ACSR), Keziah (160 AACSR) and Fibre Optic conductors (OPGW) are exclusively for use on earthwire applications. All other conductors may be used for 400 kV phase wire applications except Lynx (175 ACSR) and Upas (300 AAAC) which may only be used for 275 kV applications.
