This notice board and its appendices apply to the specification, detailed design, acceptance and

testing of signaller’s control systems (including static symbols, indications and alarms) for:

• VDU-based signalling control system (VSCS) workstations;

• route setting panels;

• signal boxes with lever frames, non-route setting panels or block shelf switches.

Section 5 contains an index of the individually published appendices.

Each appendix covers a separate topic area, although some topics may be covered by more than one appendix.

Reason for issue

Changes to signalling principles and technology can affect signallers’ ability to monitor and control

the railway in a safe and effective manner. If inadequate or inconsistent controls and information

are provided for signallers this could increase the likelihood of error when interacting with the

signalling control system, with risks to public, passenger and workforce safety as a result.

This notice board is being issued to communicate a series of updates to the requirements for the

presentation and behaviour of controls and information for signallers, published as guidance in the

appendices to this notice board.
