This module applies to the inspection of working underground mines.
This module applies to the Technical Authority – Mining (PME) and the Route Asset Manager – (Geotechnical (RAM (G)).
This module does not cover:
a) the inspection of abandoned underground mines (NR/L2/CIV/191/07)
b) the inspection of surface mines and tips (NR/L2/CIV/191/03);
c) natural cavities created by dissolution or erosion;
d) subterranean spaces which are not mine workings.
Purpose
This module mitigates the risk from the loss of track geometry or support through undermining from working underground mines.
Inspection of working underground mines is one of the risk mitigation options for assessing underground mining hazards adjacent to, or beneath the operational railway.
NOTE: The Mines (Working Facilities and Support) Act 1974 may afford Network Rail the right to examine working underground mine workings.
