This module applies to all new DC traction cables installed on DC electrified lines as referred to in BS EN 50163:

• for use on CRE systems, both positive and negative polarity with a nominal voltage (Un) of 750V DC and maximum permanent voltage (Umax1) up to 900V DC.

• for use on DC OLE systems with a nominal voltage of 750V and 1500V, e.g. Sunderland Metro and Sheffield Tram Train.

This module does not apply to any bare conductor.

Cables under this module are:

• designed for operation under the environmental conditions stated in NR/L2/ELP/23002.

• tested to European Standards allowing for cross comparison between manufacturers and consistency of product between production runs.

Purpose

This module states the minimum requirements for the design, manufacture, testing, and delivery of insulated cables for use on DC traction systems to provide the 750V and 1500V DC supply for all parts of the traction circuit.
