This module applies to maintenance, repair and renewal requirements of boundary measures and all who are involved in those activities. This module covers:

a) the maintenance, repair and renewal requirements for boundary measures protecting Network Rail operational infrastructure, depots and adjacent railway facilities; 

b) the maintenance, repair and renewal requirements for boundary measures protecting Network Rail disused and closed lines, and other non-operational land.

This module does not cover:

c) security measures that do not form part of the boundary;

d) maintenance, repair, renewal, and enhancement of retaining walls (see NR/L3/CIV/006 Structures, Tunnels and Operational Property Examinations);

e) vehicle containment systems (see NR/L3/CIV/00012 Road Vehicle Incursions: Risk Assessment of Public and Non-Public Bridge and Neighbouring Sites);

f) acoustic fences (barriers);

g) touch potential barriers;

h) safety barriers between two operational lines;

i) boundary measures forming part of a station or depot lease agreement; and

j) bridges, stations and level crossings.
