This specification applies to all aluminothermic welding that may be carried out on, or for installation into, Network Rail managed infrastructure.

This specification identifies the prerequisites for process suppliers and recognises the process supplier as the leading exponent of that process in terms of training, certification and re-certification.

Network Rail's requirements are contained in this specification with a list of approved process suppliers and their respective operating manuals and procedure documents referenced in Appendix A. All appended documents shall be treated as an integral part of this specification and thus their contents shall be considered to be mandatory.

The inspection of welds is included in this specification, together with time-based remedial actions.

PURPOSE

This specification defines the standards to be achieved when aluminothermic welding is carried out, whether in or out of the track, and defines the welding procedures to be used.
