This document is mandatory and applies to all Network Rail business units.

Purpose

Network Rail is committed through its Environment Policy to integrating good environmental management with the safe and efficient operation of the railway and to provide resources and expertise to meet its stated environmental obligations and commitments. This document defines the minimum requirements to be applied to the development and maintenance of an environmental management system.

Specifically, this document shall define the Environmental Management System (EMS) framework used to implement Network Rail's environment policy. It sets the environment management standard for Network Rail Functions and is supported by procedures that assist with the management of the company's key environmental risks.
