This Procedure is mandatory to all of Network Rail and is applicable to all activities. The Line Managers Self-Assurance process concentrates on Network Rail's Railway Safety Case and Safety Management System.
The application of this process does not remove the requirement to carry out other checks, inspection, monitoring, audit and/or certification, etc. as required by Legislation or Professional/Technical/Railway Group or Network Rail Company Standards and Specifications, Procedures or Work Instructions etc.
Purpose
Line Manager's Self-Assurance provides one of the mechanisms for assurance, requiring Line Managers in specified parts of the organisation to annually verify compliance with specific requirements of the Network Rail Railway Safety Case.
It is through this process that Business Units will be able to routinely determine which aspects of the Safety Management System are being complied with working well and which require attention. This understanding will enable local and HQ Management reviews to direct resources appropriately in resolution of these issues
