The objectives of this project were to develop an integrated system of analysis to meet the needs of an ever-changing workforce, to further simplify current methods of analysis, and to reduce labor and total analysis costs in order to meet the quality and cost control objectives set by utility management. The project was divided into two sections, chemistry and instrumentation, both of which contribute to developing a quality analysis system. It was recognized early on in the project that further advancements could best be achieved by considering a complete integration of the chemistry with the instrumentation. Several of those opportunities for improvement were identified and are listed in the presentation. The presentation also identifies characteristics for methods used in routine drinking water analysis. Each issue was evaluated and considered for its impact on total system performance. The goal was to develop an integrated approach to eliminate opportunities for errors and to keep labor requirements to a minimum while maintaining or improving the required analytical performance. Includes table.
