This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a brief overview of the fouling of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes, and a fouling control process called Vibratory Shear Enhanced Filtration Process (VSEFP). The presentation poses the question,
"Can vibration reduce fouling and
increase recovery during RO treatment
of brackish water and brines?" Statistics are presented on the VSEF process, and presentation conclusions indicate that: vibration reduces fouling and increases
practical recovery substantially;
vibration improves salt rejection by RO
membranes over 95% for brackish water
and over 90% for brine solution; and, vibration changes scale morphology from
a uniform layer of needle-like solids to a
more hydraulically conductive layer. Includes tables, figures.
