This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of Stage 2 TTHM and HAA5 limits. Disinfection byproduct (DBPs) formation is outlined, along with an overview of options to lower DBP concentrations. Conclusions on DBP optimization: select a conservative goal; evaluate existing conditions; optimize existing facilities for low cost
compliance; determine if probability of compliance is
acceptable or if improvements are needed using
a safety factor; evaluate options to meet targets through
desktop, bench and/or pilot tests; and, perform cost-effective analysis of alternatives
and implement the solutions.
