This slide presentation outlines a project by Central Arkansas Water (CAW) to replace or upgrade its computer information system (CIS). A brief overview of CAW is given along with a history of the current CIS. The decision process to upgrade or replace included: looking into the
possibility of extended
S&S maintenance;
determining a realistic
timeline for successful
implementation of an
alternative solution; and,
evaluating enQuesta to
determine if it was an
acceptable option for
CAW. Business and technical lessons learned are outlined, along with aspects that positively affected the business. The presentation provides an overall summary of lessons learned that includes: don't wait too long to
upgrade your current CIS
application; updating your current business processes
helps to ensure a smooth upgrade or transition
to a new CIS solution; build management
consensus and
maintain involvement; dedicate a skilled
team to the upgrade
or replacement; and, stay informed by
establishing and maintaining good vendor relationships,
attending regional and national conferences,
being aware of industry trends; and,
network with peers.
