This Standard defines the procedure for the preparation of drawings and associated lists for the manufacture and/or inspection of Service equipment. It deals with the layouts of drawing sheets and lists, the system of relating parts to their assemblies, and the requirements for associated lists. It is to be applied in conjunction with BS 308 Parts 1 , 2 , and 3, which govern aspects not defined in this Standard.

The Standard is intended to govern the preparation and content of engineering drawings and associated lists in such a way that they will provide all the necessary design, engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance information required for the procurement of an item, equipment, or system, and so that all items, equipments, or systems procured to such drawings and lists will be identical in physical and performance characteristics.

This Standard does not apply to illustrations and diagrams for handbooks and similar publications.
