INTRODUCTION
This specification details the BR requirements for SSRA and associated equipment.
Recorded announcements are used to make standard stopping pattern announcements over station public address systems as an alternative to manual announcements by station staff. Their use ensures that uniformly high standards of structure, clarity and diction are achieved and releases the station staff for other platform duties.
SSRA design is expected to make full use of all techniques currently available, although initial speech generation will at present be from the transcription of real voice recordings rather than from electronically generated sounds (i.e. Direct Digitisation). This should not, however preclude the use of other techniques such as Linear Predictive Coding or Phoneme when these become economically and acoustically acceptable.
The output speech quality from the SSRA shall not be lower than that produced from a high quality tape recording.
