This module covers the design, installation and performance of boundary measures and non-operational land barrier specifications to be installed on land owned by Network Rail (NR).

It applies to all boundary measure renewal activities, including like for like, upgrades or enhancements.

It applies to anyone who installs boundary measures for or on behalf of Network Rail.

NOTE: (examples include Works Delivery, Capital Delivery, Maintenance Delivery Units and NR approved contractors)

Not included within this module are;

a) Existing/legacy boundary measures i.e. this standard is not retrospective;

b) Acoustic fences. These should (when installed) be standalone assets;

c) Other structures on the boundary measure e.g. third-party buildings or structures;

d) Barriers and fences that are not boundary measures e.g. fall protection measures, fencing around electrical rooms;

e) Safety barriers between running lines and sidings etc.;

f) Prevention of incursion by wild animals or any other animals that are not domesticated farmed animals;

g) Other barriers that can be used as boundary measures that are not constructed e.g. ditches, watercourses and hedges;

h) Retaining walls (Asset Owner responsible for structures specifications); or

i) Road vehicle incursion barriers
